Am I Really Having This Conversation With A 4-Year Old?

It never ceases to amaze me the kinds of conversations I get into with my kids. We have set about making sure our kids understand they can always come to us to ask questions. I would rather they come to me where I can give them truthful answers instead of asking at school and getting the fake as hell answers. Ya know….things like “if  a guy doesn’t ejaculate in you, you can’t get pregnant!”. So from the moment they started talking we have yet to shy away from any questions they ask. They ask alot. And sometimes this open forum policy seems like not such a good idea. Take today for an example.

Little Man – “I wish I had boobs and a vagina”
Me – “well hon your born with what you got”
LM – “well we can change that”
Me – “no we can’t”
****sue me, I lied. But do I need to tell a 4 yo about sex changes yet? NO!***
LM – “uh huh, I know how”
Me – “You do? How?”
LM – “they cut off my penis and make a vagina out of my butt. But they have to turn me into a robot first”
Me – “well that costs alot of money and we don’t have that money. Besides, I don’t want you to be a robot but a human.”
LM – “Oh”
pause for a moment
LM – ” well i could ask God”
Me – “ask God to make you into a robot?”
LM – “No silly! make me have boobs and a vagina”
****he is calling me silly?????*****
Me – ” Hon god doesn’t work that way. He is busy taking care of other people who really need him”
LM – “but I do need him”
Me- “well yes you do but this is something that isn’t as important as say…..someone who needs to keep their job to make money”.
LM – “oh”
Me – “hey let’s see if Star Wars is on!
LM – “yea! Ok, good idea mom. i love you. And my penis is cool”
*** like I really needed you to tell me, you only play with it every chance you get!****

You see! This is what happens when you decide that you don’t want your kids taking advice from bathroom stalls and offer them an open forum to ask whatever. It certainly makes a challenge of it because I really wanted to say “let’s talk about this later” and avoid it at all costs. I am just dying to know how he thought he could be physically altered by being turned into a robot.
