Spammers On The Rise
Spam comments are always an issue, as of lately it has gotten worse. At most I was getting one or two a day. Now I am getting a dozen or more. The spammers are getting harder to notice. As of now anything hitting the spam bucket has been deleted as I cannot tell one way or another and I refuse to give any access to any spammer. They are slick, using normal looking emails and even leaving some comments that almost look like they are actually responding to the post. The only real clue I have is they have been hitting the same exact post that I wrote around Easter. One other thing I have noticed is that as of lately I have been receiving notification of registered users. It’s sort of misleading calling them “registered users”, really they are subscribers. I had it set to anyone could subscribe but I have disabled that. If you wish to subscribe I recommend you log me into your google reader or use the subscription button in the sidebar and choose your preferred method. All current registered users have been emailed and I have removed their registrations here on this site. It pains me to handle things like this but it’s getting ridiculous.
For you fellow bloggers, how do you handle spam? I know it comes with the territory and I am very glad that Akismet is on top of their game at keeping spam comments from showing up. I just got annoyed with how much time I was spending deleting the crap. So if anyone has some awesome tricks of the trade, please share!
**EDIT**
Two of the email addresses provided by registered users have already kicked back my email I sent out about their removal from site. I am now confident they were contributors to my increase of spam. If you are using a WordPress.org site be sure to check your settings!

I actually just went in and disabled registrations in the WP backend. Since people do not have to register to comment, and I run my feeds through Feedburner, there really is no reason for people TO register on my blog, know what I mean?
Uggh! I’m sorry. I was getting quite a bit too… thankfully after I locked things down for that week or so it cut a bunch of it out. Haven’t seen any since, despite opening it back up! I’m sure that will change at some point, but is a nice break.
However I do seem to be getting some on some items I’m selling on Craigslist and its very disappointing.

Exactly! I am still learning as I go with being on my own and I didn’t even KNOW people could register lol. Glad I figured it out before it got worse than it was.
That’s what I hate about Craigslist, anytime I had listed anything all I got was spam. Very frustrating!
