Avatar, Yep I Seen It
First apologies, I messed up my own calendar. My Beltane Recap was meant to be my Witchy Wednesday post BUT I forgot what day it was yesterday and posted it then lol. It’s ok cause I think this post may be equally as fitting.
So last night the hubs took us out to Mellow Mushroom for pizza. I got a Death By Chocolate (a martini) and omg was it good! Awhile back Alex saw the Mellow Mushroom and has been bugging us to go, he didn’t even know what they had lol. So last night was it and we all loved it. Afterwards we went to see Avatar. We went to our cheapy theater (only $15 to get in for all of us!) so it was not in 3D. That’s a good thing because I didn’t see about half of this movie. I have a pretty extreme fear of heights and an inner ear issue. So some scenes made me very nauseaus to watch. But I could listen and I have to say that I think the movie lived up to it’s hype. I really really really REALLY liked it and hubs wants to own it, along with the kids lol. Now before i go further if you haven’t seen it and want to see it but don’t want ANY spoiler than stop reading and go see it. I won’t spoil it too much but I will mention a couple things. Ok now I love the visual aspect, despite not being able to look at all of it. It was a gorgeous setting, I loved the animals, and found myself forgetting alot of it was CGI. And I cried alot. The hubs held me as I sobbed for the Hometree as it was destroyed, I got so wrapped up in it I wanted to apologize for our human insanity. Hell it still brings tears to my eyes.
Awhile back I saw a video on a pastor who claimed that the movie was pagan. Well yes there is alot of pagan influence. After all we ARE dealing with indigenous people and whenever you deal with indigenous people you are going to see paganism in some form. The Na’vi (spelling?) were heavily connected with nature and beleive in a female deity. They have sacred ground which involves trees. So yea in that aspect that pastor is correct. But then…..then the pastor says that it’s a movie about pagans rejecting technology. I am sorry, what movie did he sit in? There is no rejection of technology, they simply had no need for human technology. For that matter the humans arrive on the Na’vis planet. This isn’t our planet. Several greedy humans want to remove the Na’vi so they can make a few billion. Sound familiar? Take out the few billion and you have white settlers arriving to North America and wanting to get rid of the “savage” Natives whom we have since so graciously given a few acres as their own land. The movie shows the ugly side to our human nature, the real ugly side. The side where money matters and we will destroy those that stand in our way. So dear pastor….how is that rejecting technology? For that matter how is the entire movie demonic? Unless you want to say it was the humans that were following Satan’s lead. I doubt it but I would buy that more than some people merely defending what is rightfully theirs.

I loved Avatar too – I guess I can see that it is pagan in that it’s not “christian” but to me it was more spiritual than anything and not really “religious”. I saw it in 3D on a huge screen and thankfully had no issue with motion sickness.
