The Battle Of The Internet
So this weekend I stayed away from the computer. I probably shouldn’t lie quite like that to you, I did get on to check Farmville but that was only once in the morning and once before bed. No computer time other than that. My phone? Yea that sat lonely on my desk begging me to pay attention to it. It would go off every once in awhile to let me know I had email, I made a point not to read those emails. I just checked for text messages…..I need to set it so it notifies me differently for text messages then emails. I spent my weekend finding anything to do that kept me out of the comfy chair.
I worked on my plants. I lost 8 seedlings but kept alive 12 others, I think I lost all my strawberries. Either that or I lost all my tomatoes. Not too shabby for the black thumb eh? I transplanted some of my plants into larger pots as they appeared to grow out of space. Amazingly this hurt my back, makes me wonder if it was all psychosomatic since gardening is supposed to be back breaking work. While I did this the hubs got a wild hair up his butt and mowed the grass. It was only up to our ankles. Usually he waits until you can’t see the dog in the yard anymore (who stands hip high) and I have to tell him it needs to be done. I wanted to check for a fever but I told him the yard looked good when he finished and left it at that. Anywho my plants are looking lovely and I was motivated to pick up some more plants from the store. We have added cayenne peppers, jalapeno peppers, spearmint, and peppermint to our collection. I need to get them larger pots this week so I can transfer them as well. Last night I used some of our thyme in our spaghetti sauce, oh my was it good. The rosemary is smelling divine and I am looking forward to using it with some chicken this week. I highly recommend growing herbs regardless of where you live, they are pretty easy to do in a pot and taste so much better than dried herbs you buy in the store. And if you like dried herbs you can dry them yourself. Much cheaper in the long run!
I also got some knitting done. I have been designing a pentacle shawl but it wasn’t working out. I had ripped it back 3 times and redone them and nope…..need to go back to the drawing board. I have now changed it to an ankh in the meantime. I got some wonderful sugar varicose yarn at a local shop and have worked it into some spider lace. So I am down to two projects at the moment. As of last night the girls have started knitting again. This makes me happy. Molly is working on a scarf and Claire is back to working on her vest for her bear.
I was going through our homeschooling stuff. I have picked up things here and there over the last couple weeks and needed to reorganize the closet. I think I need to swap the craft closet in the dining room with the homeschooling closet in my bedroom. It makes sense to have all the homeschool stuff in the dining room since that will be our primary “classroom” area. Plus I would like the records handy if someone does a home visit. We have some filing cabinets in the dining room that would help. I have some bookshelves as well, may need to get rid of some books and take them to Mr. K’s so I have space available for the kids books.
I am working on acquiring a hand drum. I am thinking of a djembe, I like the look of them but not sure yet. I want to find out more about drums and then learn to play. These drums aren’t cheap but I think it would be a great learning experience for the kids and I. We have a slide whistle, keyboard, and bells that we can use for music class. A drum would be a nice addition. I am also going to start picking up plenty of art supplies. We need lots of paper, crayons, markers, glue, stickers, paints, etc etc. June 11 isn’t that far, it’s amazing how excited the kids and I are. If I think too far ahead I get nervous and overwhelmed by what is entailed with homeschooling. Anyone considering taking the leap has to be aware of what lies ahead but don’t focus too much on it. I am expecting our first year to be the learning year. All spent figuring out how to go about our day and what is the best way to teach each of the kids. I already know that Molly and Claire learn differently, I am hoping Alex is similar to one of them just to make things a wee bit easier. Of course that isn’t likely. I have never met 3 kids who were polar opposites. It really is possible!
Well I must get ready for work. I hope you all had a great weekend and a great start for another week!
