Moving Forward
I am amazed and amused at how quickly my plans for work change. Yesterday I was ready to just call the warehouse and see if they had openings. Then someone linked me to another professionals site. So I am still actively trying to find work for here athome. But something has got to give by Friday morning. I didn’t have any rejection emails this morning but I think all of my applications have been responded to so no real shock to that.
I think that is the hardest part of trying to find work. It’s hard enough wading through crap sites that are full of scams for legitimate jobs. And it really pisses me off when a site says they have work at home JOBS and really it’s a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. Big difference and someone isn’t well educated in knowing the difference. But no that’s not the hardest thing. The hardest is consistently putting yourself out there and being told in overly polite terms that you just aren’t good enough. I would say it’s a humbling experience but really it feels more like an ego crushing experience. Sure I am competing against hundreds of other people for the same job but everyone likes to think that they are perfect for it. Ya know?
On the lighter side I am going to audition for a show. If I make it to the interview process I will have to go to Los Angeles. No easy feat considering the money involved. I originally thought we could just camp our way there and make it a big family thing. Hubs is afraid our car won’t make it (he is probably right) and he doesn’t want to take that much time off. So flying it will be. If I make it past the interview process and I am asked to film a show, I get to fly back (all expenses paid trip that time) and spend up to 8 days in Los Angeles. Kinda cool considering I have never been on the west coast. So anywho, wish me luck. I am hoping my bloggy theme and some of my interests will make me interesting enough that they will want me.
So it’s Tuesday which means carting the hubs around so I can have the car. We are going to see a free movie at the theater and then run grocery errands. We may do some schooling today, kids can’t seem to handle NOT doing schoolwork in a given day. Oh the curse of having smart kids who are enjoying the relaxed environment of home. I think they are more interested in schoolwork now than when they were in school. I attribute that to having some say on what they are doing. Molly CHOSE to learn German (when we couldn’t get her a Latin program at the library), Claire CHOSE to study Abraham Lincoln, and Alex CHOOSES each day how he will learn phonics. I am still there letting them know they have to tackle certain subjects but the methods are more student involved than what they were getting before and they are soaking it up.
Ok so I must go, hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday!

Just wandered on in, and am curious to hear about the German and Lincoln learning. I’ve found about.com is a pretty good resource for German grammar, and there are short poems in German that may help with pronunciation and the like (Rilke’s early work – particularly his poems about Autumn – might be a nice place to start).
The neat thing about Lincoln is that the primary sources from his career aren’t too hard too read. Gettysburg is less than 300 words, I think. The Second Inaugural has some complicated thoughts, but not a terribly complicated vocabulary. The House Divided Speech and Proclamation of Thanksgiving also aren’t terribly long, but in the latter especially, every word counts.
ashok´s last [type] ..Abraham Lincoln- “Remarks to Baltimore Presbyterian Synod- Washington- DC”
As of lately it’s been slow moving as I haven’t put any real time frame on their summer learning. I will take a look at Rilke’s poems for her to learn and recite as a way to get used to pronunciation. She is enjoying the cd’s alot so that is an added plus.
With Lincoln, the middle dd just got done reading about John Wilke’s Booth and is pretty fascinated with the assassination. I am hoping to steer her to the documents and his role in the Civil War and how slavery became a part of that. But again, we have no real time frame so we shall see how that goes lol.
Thanks for the input!
