Retractable Fangs and a Roundup!
So you all know how much I love Halloween type stuff and I know how much most of you love vampires (I do as well), I have to tell you about an awesome give away over at The Raven’s Barrow. There are these awesome new fangs called Retractable Fangs that are a part of the giveaway. There is a video up at the site and if you watch it you can see them retract. It’s pretty freaking awesome. I am not sure quite how it is done but I am guess from the motion of the lips that there is some sort of sensitive switch that your lips rub and down come the fangs. Another friend commented it could be something you rub your tongue on as well. Either way it’s pretty freaking awesome! Besides the fangs, the prizepack includes an awesome Famous Monsters of Filmland poster. My daughter will LOVE that for her room! Anyway head on over because you gotta try winning these cool items and two lucky people get to win!
Ok so for the roundup, how was your weekend? Ours was pretty relaxed. We cleaned house and hung around mostly. Yesterday we had our friend and his girlfriend come over. He is a big pyro and LOVES fireworks so he brought some legal stuff over. NC recently got real tight on the laws for fireworks so I was a little nervous when the next door neighbors brought out the stuff that is way illegal. Not to mention massively unsafe because of the trees, wires, and close houses on the streets. Oh and did I mention they were drinking and quite a few got set off into the trees? Yea, we didn’t go to bed until 2am when they were finished because I was pretty sure they were going to catch a car or house on fire. Ok, I digress….back to the fun part. Anywho the friends came by, brought some fireworks and we cooked out. Nothing big just a small thing. Hubs was grateful for it. LOL I am not sure how it happened but somehow I love having a houseful of friends over and he is more of an intimate gathering type person. So he was thanking me all last night for the nice evening. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t text everyone to stop by was because our friends’ gf has severe social anxiety and if she is around more than 3 adults she shuts down. I didn’t want anything like that happening so I left the phone alone.
Anywho the kids didn’t go to sleep until 11:30 last night. It’s after 8 am and they are still asleep. It’s kinda nice lol. Not sure what we will do today. I think we will have some schooltime this morning and maybe take a walk later. Tomorrow we have a free movie and sometime this week I will take them bowling.
Ok off to do some laundry, don’t forget to get in on the giveaway!

Angel, What a contrarian you are!
Discussing halloween fangs on the 4th of July weekend!
Pointing out the reckless danger of fireworks! Never mind your list of oxymorons: domestic witch, modern pagan, secular homeschool, etc. Love it. Keep it up.

PS – Have you seen the oxymorons game on Vocabulary Learning Fun?
PPS – Thanks for the SpellingCity.com twitter tweet. Would you review Time4Learning.com?
I had this comment up and I have to say that I found it a bit offensive. Sure, talking about halloween fangs is contrary to the “holiday” of the 4th. I talk about Halloween and Samhain all year long. But to basically spend alot of time calling me a walking oxymoron is seriously not cool. In hindsight, I honestly don’t think you meant to be offensive but at the same time, I would never walk up to a stranger or hit a new blog and spend time calling them a walking oxymoron. And really I am not sure how you are going to claim that Domestic Witch is an oxymoron. Redundant maybe, but not an oxymoron. I am assuming once again that you are just not aware of witches and what we do and how domesticated some of us really are. I am almost positive you have the imagery of Hollywood witches in your head and that isn’t exactly what real witches are. I can agree that the term Modern Pagan is an oxymoron. However, we use it to point out that we don’t practice exactly as our pagan ancestors once did (ie, blood sacrifices). Some choose to use the term neo-pagan but even then once again it’s a confusing terms to those who don’t know and understand paganism in this day and age.
Secular Homeschool is another word that is not an oxymoron but redundant. Homeschool is simply schooling at home. There is no requirement of religious curriculum associated with homeschooling, people choose to do so. I can also understand if someone assumed I was teaching my children pagan homeschooliing considering the nature of my blog, despite that not being fact. Secular Homeshcoolers label themselves as such so they can differentiate themselves from those that choose to homeschool religiously. We have to, because people make assumptions based on whatever biases they have been taught or grown up with. Or worse, assume everyone else does the same things they do for the same exact reason.
And after spending all that time calling me a walking oxymoron you choose to ask me to do a review of a website? Really? How exactly would you feel if someone showed up at your blog saying “LOL you are calling yourself a smart man! THAT is my FAVORITE oxymoron! Oh hey, would you mind reviewing my site?”? Think about that for just a second. Would you really be inclined to want to work with someone who just insulted you not to mention didn’t send you a personal email explaining why on earth you want the person you just insulted to do that review?
Furthermore, I was told that the company had been notified about this issue. At that time I expected some short and sweet “sorry, never meant to insult you. Didn’t mean it.” That was almost 3 days ago. I have had nothing. That says volumes about a company and whether they are worth my time. I am not looking to boycott or cause you financial hardship. But my time, money, and effort is valuable whether anyone else appreciates it or not. And it’s up to me to decide if someone is worthy of it. I would have happily reviewed the site had I gotten any sort of an apology. Since i didn’t, I am really not that interested. But thanks for stopping by!
A well written response. Keep at it.

Well said, Angela.
I see nothing wrong with pointing out the need for safety around fire and things that explode. That’s just good sense. I see absolutely nothing wrong with discussing vampire fangs on the 4th or any day lately either – especially not with the Twilight movies and books being all the rage. Really, is it wrong they released those movies at any other time than around Halloween?
And if he thinks “domestic witch” is an oxymoron – he should do some research on chaos magicians. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with the term domestic witch, anymore than I would if you put domestic in front of any other religion/faith. A domestic Catholic, for example, would be to me a Catholic who focuses on how their faith can be applied to how they choose to live their life and how to follow their faith at home with their family, instead of focusing on the outside world so much. Domestic witch has much more to it, I’m sure, but that is just what comes to mind first for me. Please correct me if I’m wrong! (:

You are spot on, domestic witches relate their practice of witchcraft with their domestic life. So your analogy of a Domestic Catholic is perfect.
