Having a holiday on Monday has really thrown me off. I know not all of you had a holiday but our office was closed and we had no mail so it seemed like a Sunday. So now I am all monkeyed up on what day it is.
Today the kids are excited because we are taking the bus into town. Who knew they would be that excited to take mass transit? Regardless we are going in town this afternoon for a free trip to our Health Adventure. The first Wed of each month we can choose between a visit to Health Adventure, the rock & gem museum, or the art museum for free. It’s an awesome resource!
My art snobbiness has reared it’s ugly head. And I don’t consider myself an art snob. Growing up in Baltimore meant thousands of field trips into DC to their playhouses and the Smithsonian Museums. Have you ever been to the Smithsonian Art Museum? We are talking massive diversity in styles and genres. I had always loved going to the Smithsonians. Here in Asheville it’s one genre. Modern Art. And I hate Modern Art. So for my kids we will make a field trip or something to DC so they can enjoy being immersed into so much variety. I actually plan a lot of trips back that way. The Zoo, the museums, the government. Where else to better educate our kids? I couldn’t live there as I have grown quite accustomed to the slow paced life of Asheville. Why am I mentioning all of this? I think I had inadvertently upset someone about going downtown for the free day. I was asked point blank if we were going to the Art Museum and I apparently made a face as I said no. I didn’t mean to nor recall actually doing it but I must have because I was then asked why not and I mentioned my disdain for modern art and the desire for diversity in genres. I was then informed that this is why yanks shouldn’t move here. I have been here almost a full 17 years. I thought I lost title to “yank” at some point? And for that matter, if you want to get extremely technical which pisses off the bigoted rednecks around here, I was never a Yank. Yanks are ABOVE the Mason Dixon line. Now granted perhaps they haven’t kept up with their geography but Mason Dixon line is the line between MD and PA. Yea, that convo never sits well when one assumes that my “yankiness” is why I am so picky about things. Truth be told I am picky about ALOT of things. It’s in my nature, nothing to do with geography.
In other news, I had one company insult me before requesting me to review their site. Let me rephrase that, and individual repping that company did and I am currently waiting to hear from the company. I haven’t heard anything and I am a bit anxious to hear from them. I have a sinking suspicion I won’t hear anything and that says volumes to me. Honestly I don’t think it was their intention to insult me but a quick “oh sorry, didn’t realize that bothered you. HAHAHA sarcasm doesn’t portray well online” would be sufficient and I would be more than happy to further the discussion of reviewing their site. But if I don’t get that soon, I am going to have to reveal the details of being insulted. And if they are awesome enough to contact me then I will be back to tell you all how wonderful they are and how misunderstandings are a part of life. At the same time I have had another company read the blog and asked me to review their site as well. These people have some awesome PR and are a great site. So I am currently working up some details with the company and I am going to arrange for an awesome giveaway. And when I mean awesome, I mean AWESOME. Trust me.
In other news, I realized Type A Mom is coming up and I need to get prepared. If you haven’t gotten your tickets you gotta hurry! There are only 13 Early Bird Tickets left at time this post went to publish. The Early Birds are only offered until July 23rd but if they sell out before then there will be no more Early Birds. So get them now! If you really want to come but cannot afford the trip, I recommend finding a sponsor. Come back tomorrow and I will have up a post about how to go about getting those sponsors. Also in regards to Type A Mom, I need to find an inexpensive place for a friend to stay. He is coming up to speak on one of the Dad Tracks. I, myself, am speaking! I am doing a finance discussion on that Saturday afternoon. I need to start really narrowing down the topic and focus on what it is I will be speaking about.
Anything else? Oh yea, birthday parties a week from this weekend. Well one for Kyle and Alex together. I need to get the gazebo down by the river and I think I will focus on light snacks and cake. Money is tight and I want to keep it nice and easy. I may have to get another pinata though. That was a huge hit last year.
Ok I need to run to the store so I can have change for the bus. I will talk to you all later!

I used to just despise Modern Art as a whole. Now I don’t mind it as much but it’s far from my favorite. Also how is not liking Modern Art make you a “Yank” wouldn’t the so called “Yanks” be all over that sort of thing. I live just outside of Baltimore, but we still don’t go to DC that often. I do want to go the art museum there before we move, as well as a bunch of the other museums there.
Riceball Mommy´s last [type] ..Im sick
We have a few rednecks here who will use anything I say against me in terms of “yankiness”. I mean seriously, I was talking one time with a guy about a lcoal restaurant that does authentic NY cannoli’s and someone else piped in “well if north is so much better why are you here?”. I never actually said the North was better, I just said if you want a good NY cannoli go to this restaurant.
If you get the chance definetly head on over to DC. I was public schooled and all through elementary and junior high we took trips over for just about everything. It’s where I fell in love with a political play about Harriet Tubman, fell in love with Ancient Egypt as I stared into glass cases of mummies, and marveled at impressionist paintings (one of my most favorites). The Zoo is also my absolute most favorite place to go. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone and my favorite exhibit will always be the monkey house. ALWAYS. Last time I visited my parents and tried to get us to go, they deemed DC as dangerous as Afghanistan and we ended up at Baltimore Zoo (not a bad zoo but pales in comparison).
