Not So Great Lammas
So yesterday was Lammas. For those readers that don’t know what Lammas is it is the first of the Harvesting Holy Days. Lots of people begin harvesting and canning right around this time. It signifies, for me anyway, the beginning of the end of our year. Mabon is the 2nd Harvesting Holy Day, and Samhain is the 3rd and final…..and coincidentally the end of our year. At this time of year I see it as a time to prep for the end. Except this year I didn’t get to really do that.
Let’s start with some things popped up at work and I ended up working Saturday night and all day yesterday. I hadn’t planned on being at the office that long but I had a ton of administrative work sitting on my hands that had to be dealt with before today. So I got home around dinner time, pretty tired. Eldest wanted to learn how to make a good baked potato so her and daddy were in the kitchen. However, the entire house…….the same house that stays pretty well picked up when I am home…..was destroyed. I think half of Alex’s bedroom was in the dining room! Walked into the kitchen and I am fairly certain they used every dish in the house and not once thought to clean up after breakfast or lunch. I promptly went to the bedroom and curled up with a book. And in 5 minutes I was asleep.
At some point the hubs and eldest left for the store to get some more stuff for dinner. I got up and decided it was time to check in with some things online. I especially needed to get entries in for the Giveaway I am running. I noticed my laptop had been moved. I found it after a second but I was wondering WHY it had been moved and set up in the dining room. I promptly discovered that I couldn’t plug it in. It’s been a long time since I got that mad in that short amount of time. Claire fessed up to trying to plug it in and use it. She also decided that it was a good time to go to her room and hide. Smart choice because in that moment I could understand how a parent could lose it enough to whip their child with a belt. Now before anyone freaks, I did no such thing. I purposely stayed away from her because I was that angry. I ended up crying to be honest and that is even worse because I hate to be that mad that I have to cry to let it out. My issue is (1) I am still paying for my laptop (2) at no time did she feel a need to CALL me to see if she could use the laptop knowing full well that she has to have permission before using any computer in our home and (3) this laptop has all of our school stuff on it AND is the only way I can access the admin to this blog. Hubs comes home and gets that look on his face of “would you quit worrying so much!” and I wanted to slug him. He took a look at it while the eldest was working on the steaks. Turns out that my plug has a short in it, at the place where it connects into the laptop. Not sure how in hell that happened but it did. Anywho we have a universal plug that can work for now BUT we need it for both his and my laptop. Which means i have to make sure the laptop is fully charged before he goes to work so we can use the computer for schoolwork during the day. Which means I get a blog post in before he leaves, like today. At some point we will contact HP on how to get a new plug but we have other bills that we have to take care of.
So that is how my Lammas was. No little ritual like I had planned, I was far too stressed and exhausted to really focus on it. No fun time with the kids because they decided to leave mommy totally alone last night (can’t say I don’t blame them). I think if I could I would have hidden from myself last night as well.
Today I am not prepared for school this week. So it’s a free study day or no school day, it’s their choice. I will get their week of stuff all planned out today and they can get back into our groove tomorrow. I am also calling our Arboretum today, I heard through the grapevine that they have free parking Tuesdays. I want to check into that because that may become a weekly trip out of the house. We also have the Botanical Gardens over at UNCA that is 100% free if that doesn’t pan out. Hope it does though, I like having lots of options.
Ok I am off and ready to make today a much better day than yesterday. Hope you all have a great Monday.

Sorry to hear your Lammas wasn’t that great. I hope you’ll get some time to your self to ‘make up for it’. And of course that your Monday has been better.
Thank you! We have our public ritual this Saturday so I am really looking forward to that to “make up for it”
