Christians and Muslims, QUIT FIGHTING!

Ok seriously, this is really getting freaking old! The mentality of some Christians and Muslims is so physically draining, even for those of us who try desperately to stay away from the ridiculous bull. I am referring to the latest battle over the Mosque near Ground Zero. Some of what I see being said just shows the absolute ignorance that these people fighting really hold.

First off, I actually support the idea of the Mosque being there. I think it could really aid in the healing process of the awful bombing. Honestly, I am not trying to be mean when I say this……but some of you people out there really hold on to being victims. I did a presentation in my Religions course on Islam because, well, I didn’t know anything about Islam. That had to be the most amazing presentation I had ever done. I got to see the other side of things. I didn’t rely on the media to hand feed me information (that they so often manipulate for ratings). I did an interview with 5 other men and I did bring up 9/11. Probably the best thing I have ever done. They were able to have a voice with someone who wasn’t prepared to not listen and shoot them down every chance that they got to really speak from the heart. I was able to really heal from the terror I felt from 9/11.

Secondly, this Mosque was allegedly approved before 9/11 occurred. I had heard that awhile back and have tried to find that information but I cannot. Ironically it’s not mentioned in any news piece. Matter of fact, the news articles I keep finding don’t really mention WHEN the idea was first proposed or any dates of voting. Which kind of leads me to believe that there might be some truth in the fact that it was approved prior to the tragedy. Especially when news articles are written to lead someone to think it’s a brand new idea.

Thirdly, kinda sick of hearing how Islam is a religion of violence. Western Muslims are NOT like their Eastern Fundamentalist counterparts. The Quran itself is no more violent than the Bible. When Eric Rudolph was bombing abortion clinics and hiding out in our woods here in NC, he had more freaking supporters than I care to even remember. But that is ok? We can condone the likes of Eric Rudolph, the attitudes of Amazing Grace Baptist Church, the rantings of the KKK, and the hatred of Westboro Baptist Church…..but we are so willing to trash Islam. And if you are going to start talking Jihad, you better start understanding what Greater Jihad and Lesser Jihad really is. Again, I refer to ignorance.

Lastly, we all know dam well that if it was another church people wouldn’t be bitching (ok, accept maybe a Wiccan Church but I don’t think it would be at the level of bitching it’s at now). Hypocrisy at it’s finest!

I am a person who stands behind Freedom of Religion, not Freedom of Religion for a chosen few. Once we start working to not allowing one group to practice freely, who is next? I mean seriously, think about it. Let’s imagine that suddenly, Muslims are not permitted to freely have Mosques and worships as they see fit. Well now that “God fearing” individuals like Mrs. Palin has got their way, who would be next? And that is the sad fact, people would be on a rampage to work at getting rid of other opposing religions and spiritual paths. And that would destroy the freedoms we have in this country.

The “easy” solution to this is people need to stop the hate. On all sides. We need to stop hanging on to being victims. It’s been almost 9 years, we need to heal. We need to show that love to each other (that so many religions profess) and learn to get along in our great melting pot society. In the meantime, I am going to spend time today praying at my altar that people let go and move forward. I am going to also pray for myself, so that I can stop feeling so negative towards religions that claim they are loving and yet behave so nasty.

**clap, clap, clap** standing ovation!!! Thank you!!! I certainly do not understand all the crap surrounding it.The people who did this were Islamic Extremists, not general everyday Muslims, I am for it for the exact reason. By their works, they can show they are all about love and healing. And, yes, you are right, once one religion’s rights are removed, who is next? I could not believe it when the Harry Reid (Dem majority leader) came out against the Mosque. His reasoning: Islamic Extremists did this!! He was right! Extremists did it. This makes me sick!! I am also with you that it was in the works prior to anything happening. Just by little clues in the media – they finally got the landmark status meaning the mosque could move forward. THANK YOU!!

Thanks to you and Diane! Never quite know how people will respond when you show support for something a majority wants to squash lol!

“The mentality of some Christians and Muslims is so physically draining, even for those of us who try desperately to stay away from the ridiculous bull.”

I’m glad you wrote that. I thought it was just me. I’m normally a news junkie – I love to watch it, to read it online, etc. But I’ve been feeling literally sick of news the past two weeks, physically exhausted mixed with despair. I’ve been on a self-imposed news blackout for the past few days, hoping that will help. Anyway – I honestly thought it was just me… It helps to think there is a more, um, national (natural?) cause.

Oh no, you are not alone. I feel this way even with Witch Wars at times.
