Beltane Getaway Recap
Our Beltane getaway was pretty awesome. We arrived around 5 on Friday and the drive down wasn’t too pleasant. I have this thing where I create schedules so that all needs before we leave can be met and we leave on time in order to arrive and enjoy our time. The hubs doesn’t work this way. So inevitably, there is a blow up. It’s okay though, we did get there and nothing went to shit like I thought it would. I was just so insanely stressed that I took some things out on him. Of course I pulled on the big girl panties and apologized.
But anyway we got there and we relaxed. The kids spent almost all their time off and playing with other kids. Hubs & I napped a lot. Even little man enjoyed napping a bit extra (he was getting over Croup and yes he had the okay from doctor to go camping). We did enjoy a few things. Naturally there was the shopping. Eldest bought herself a pelt of raccoon for her altar & dolphin necklace for her friend, middle dd bought herself a sparkly blue spider necklace and a wand, little man scored some flyer things that light up and spin really high into the air, and I scored a cool new pentacle with Goddess on it and a new pentacle wind chime. I will need to get some photos of those soon.
There were rituals and I did participate in the Beltane ritual. I couldn’t stay up late for the women’s Moon rite but I was there in spirit! We also did a family craft session in which the kids painted hamsas.
When we weren’t napping, we did some exploring. We were right by Lake York and it was very soothing to go visit the water. Little Man and I even sat down for about 30 minutes and talked about where all the elements were as the sun set.
Saturday evening was the most fun. We had a good dinner and there was a raffle. Little man won 2 dozen farm fresh free range eggs and the hubs won a Pan necklace that was tiny. So they traded, LOL! We sat out by the fire for awhile while the Maypole dance took place (what my middle dd lovingly called “pole dancing”…..she’s 10 y’all, give her some slack!). After that there was Wicca Bingo. Which is Bingo but the cards say Wicca and none of the numbers are matched to the letters like in traditional Bingo. Hey, it works! Anywho I won a pretty wine stopper and Eldest won an incense kit and wine stopper. Since she is 12, I now have two wine stoppers. After a few game, the kids were kicked out…..it was time for Adult Wicca Bingo. Seriously, a room full of horny witches around Beltane playing Adult Wicca Bingo is downright hilarious. See all of the prizes for Adult Wicca Bingo were sex-toy related (lubes, penis shaped candies, and even a butt plug). So yea, this was one hell of an excited room. The hubs had complained all during Bingo that he wasn’t winning. Well THAT was about to change. He won a bag that had lubes, coupon to a sex shop, a penis pacifier, and some cute candy necklace that had little candy penises hanging from it. Later on I won and I got some chewing gum in the shape of little penises. We kept going until it was time to play for the grand prize. Lo and behold, the hubs won it. Even more hilarious is the card he won it on, the only numbers that got covered were the 5 in a row. Anywho I ran up to claim it for him, because we all knew who was really going to get it. And well, the prize is amazing. Several “toys” including a glass one (wohoooo I didn’t have one of those!), lubes, and nipple teasers. It’s only a shame that we haven’t gotten to play with our toys yet. Well maybe we have, I am writing this post Sunday evening so who knows what happened between then and when this goes live.
The other highlight of the weekend was being recognized by “strangers”. Don, the Chancellor of NCPCOW, recognized me so we got to chat a bit. Saturday morning, while I was innocently brushing my teeth, some crazed woman with wild eyes came running up and grabbed me and said “I KNOW YOU!!! YOU ARE PAGAN MOM BLOG”. HAHAHA okay yea it didn’t go down quite like that. More like a chick named April introduced herself as someone who recognized me from the blog and called herself my stalker. HI APRIL! YOU JUST GOT A SHOUT OUT! YAY! April is pretty cool, unfortunately we didn’t see much of each other outside of that moment and didn’t get a chance to hang out. But April, honey, if your going next year you gotta let me know so we can do lunch or something.
On the way home we discussed how everyone liked it. Overall consensus is that this will be an annual thing for all of us to enjoy. The kids like it because there are other kids to hang out with and there are thing to do that are geared for them. Eldest always talks about the Chocolate Pudding From A Can on Saturday Night. I swear if there was a chocolate pudding from a can shortage she would starve to death. Hubs enjoyed it because he didn’t feel pressured into joining in anything. There is a bit of anonymity for him there (for now, we all know I will be getting an Oscar for Most Amazing Blog Ever…..or at least in my fantasy world I will be) and so he doesn’t feel that he has to play “the hubs”. He also commented on the family atmosphere and very relaxed feel that the event has. He is hoping that next year he can join in on a few things. Which pretty much told me that he WANTS to come back. So yea, it looks like a permanent getaway for us. We are talking about getting a lodge next time and inviting some friends to come with us. Eldest even wants to bring a friend. So poor NCPCOW hasn’t gotten rid of us just yet
P.S.

As Chancellor of the Church and as a worker of this festival I want to sincerely thank you and your family for attending. This was one of our best years ever. I meet many people every year and I truly love when people come back year after year and bring their families. It means a great deal to us to hear how wonderful of a time you and your family had at our little festival and we are glad to hear that it is going to be the first of many. You and yours will always be welcome at any and all of our events, thank you for coming.
Thank you! It’s great to have that place to visit that is open to families, relaxed, and just a bunch of fun.
