Learning Lessons

So recently I got to be a part of an Asatru Blot. I was very interested in checking it out because of the call from Freyja and the very recent & strong desire to look into my Germanic ancestry. I have been honoring my ancestors for quite some time and have a habit of regularly honoring them instead of at Samhain. I mean, I still do it at Samhain but I have stretched it out a bit over the year. Anywho I was pretty excited and I learned a lot. I am most certainly not meant for the Heathen path. There is nothing “wrong” with it per se, it just simply lacks certain needs that I have (ie: casting a sacred circle for starters). But I do love aspects of the Blot, particularly a focus on the devotion to the gods and affirming your community.

Sometimes I think that devotions and affirmations really do get lost in the mix. Sometimes we put too much focus on magical workings in sacred space. And by “we” I mean “I and I am sure I am not alone in that”. It’s important to remember to nourish that relationship with the god/desses. If someone always came up to you requesting stuff without rarely saying thank you and giving something back, you would kick that person to the curb. Well, it’s the same thing with our god/desses. So my take away from the Blot is to remember to say “thank you” to my deities and make more offerings. I have gotten slack lately and it was a nice wake up call. Or kick in the butt.

But I am also going to remember to take the time to thank my community. Those people that I feel help me nurture my path and are there to kick me in the tush when I am being selfish or a royal pain. I am thinking it may come in the form of a quick email message once a day to my long distance folks and a “thank you” and a hug for my local peeps when I see them.

What will you do this week to nurture your relationships this week?
