Scary Fun At NC Haunted Farm

As y’all know, I love scary things. I enjoy scaring the crap out of myself and at this time of year I tend to think of haunted houses. There aren’t very many here, only two that I am aware of. One is Pinhead’s Graveyard. I have been to it only once and I wasn’t all that impressed with it. $15 to wait an hour and then walk through the trail in 20 minutes. The only time I got scared was when the chainsaw guy chased me. I have an aversion to chainsaws.

This year I wanted to take my girls to a haunted something. It was high time they learned about the joys of scaring yourself to death. And fortunately, this was the year they were ready to do it. So I searched for haunted houses in our area and finally found one that sounded like a good deal and plenty of fun. NC Haunted Farm is located south of us in Hendersonville, right by all the lovely pumpkin patches and apple orchards that we will visit next weekend. We spent about an hour in line to wait, which wasn’t bad imho. $13 a person and we spent another hour inside the actual trails and what not. It was definitely worth the money!

The first part is a trail through the woods. Not much in the way of light so you are constantly feeling your way along with your feet. What little bit of light there is shines right in your eyes so your eyes are constantly adjusting to shifts of light and dark. That’s where the  actors come in. More than once I had some crazy fool running right at me and I wouldn’t see them until they were almost in my face. A scream escaped my lips a couple of times. Another cool thing was a guy was swinging on a rope and I didn’t see him until his feet were near my face. Then I thought he might’ve been a doll until he jumped back on the rope again to swing out.

After the trail comes the farm portion. 4 buildings, each with a different theme. Slaughterhouse, Hayloft, Circus, and then insane asylum. Lots of narrow walkways in pitch black meant single file and feeling along the walls to find your way. Somehow I ended up leading the crew. It’s usually my rule that I am not in the front or the back but since I am the momma and veteran of haunted houses, it became my duty. The coolest thing was the end of the Circus. Now the Circus was NOT my favorite because I am not a fan of clowns. But at the end they had the hallway filled with these two giant white balloons that formed a rectangle sort of shape. You had to push your way through the middle where the two balloons met. Claire got a bit freaked so I turned and walked butt out first so she could hold my hands and keep her eyes on me. Molly said it was like being born LOL!

After that we did a Haunted Hayride. I am going to be honest, by this point I was glad to be sitting. Between stumbling in the dark and being pushed by 4 girls behind me whom are terrified, my body needed a rest. This was part was pretty fun too but the actors focused on the back end of the trailer where most of the screamers were. We had a few actors jump up where we were at the front and screamed from the surprise. Overall we laughed a lot. That sort of nervous laughter but also relieved that the actors found their victims that weren’t us.

It was good and fun. We got shocked enough to scream but not terrified to have nightmares at bedtime. We will probably go back again next year.

That sounds like so much fun! I’ve never been to a haunted house but would like to try it as I enjoy just watching that kind of thing on tv! Glad to hear it wasn’t so bad to give you nightmares though! :) BB StormJewel
