I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls on behalf of Dannon. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program but my opinions are my own.

I have been hearing lots about Greek yogurt lately. I mean everyone is talking about it! But I have refrained from trying it. Mostly because I am a scaredy cat like that. Really, I hate buying something that I am not sure I will like because I don’t want to feel like I wasted my money. So when Clever Girls began looking for bloggers to try out Dannon’s Oikos, I had to shoot for it.

When we went to the store I actually had a hard time finding it. I had a hard time finding any Greek yogurt at all. I began to worry because what was all the fuss about if you can’t find it in the grocery store? I was about ready to head to the health food shop when the eldest finally found it, tucked away on a top shelf. The kids were really excited and wanted to eat it in the car. My kids LOVE yogurt so I got super cool points for getting the chance to try some free. I tortured them on the way home with musings of “but I got the yogurt, not you!” and “the company wants to know what I think, not you!”. Rest assured, I was only teasing them.

When we got home I didn’t even fight them to eat dinner first. It’s yogurt, it’s totally healthy! So we all grabbed spoons and took bites. With the exception of the youngest (whom is 6 and must be my most purposely difficult child) everyone loved it. I found it to be richer, thicker, and creamier than traditional yogurts I have bought in the past. It was very filling, perfect for a mid-morning or after school snack to tide you over until mealtime. I was curious about the thickness of the yogurt, seriously…….it wouldn’t roll off the spoon! According to Dannon: Dannon® Oikos® is created through an authentic Greek straining process which gives it a rich and creamy-thick texture. So I googled and YouTube has tons of videos on how to make Greek and “regular” yogurt. Pretty cool stuff!

So how about the health stuff? Ya know, the label reading and what not? Well Dannon® Oikos® Plain and Fruit on the Bottom contains 0% fat, while the Dannon® Oikos® traditional blended varieties contains about 3% fat. Both are an excellent source of protein, twice that of most regular lowfat yogurts. That is good news for lacto-ovo vegetarians and for those of us who simply want to cut down on meat proteins!
