The Hollow Bone: A Field Guide To Shamanism

I recently finished The Hollow Bone: A Field Guide To Shamanism and found it to be quite an easy read. Most pagans and those of nature based traditions tend to run into at least a couple of Shamans in their lifetime. For me, I have been left wondering what exactly Shamanism is and why so many are drawn to such a path. This book is an excellent resource on getting the sheer basics of Shamanism and enticing the reader to look more into it. Even if you decide that Shamanism isn’t right for you, you can at least gain a better understanding at your fellow community members.

Shamanism is a spiritual practice that has been around since the beginning of time. And that’s exactly why I like this book, it keeps it as a spiritual practice without bringing in dogma. Colleen Deatsman brings forth some core beliefs, terminology, and practices from around the world while encouraging everyone to find that right way for them. The best thing about this book is that this book is written for any layperson to read and completely understand. It is a 101 book, so if you are looking for something deeper this isn’t the book for you!
