The Lovers’ Tarot Deck
Recently Weiser Books sent The Lovers’ Tarot Deck to review. Now I am not someone who is a good tarot reader, I actually have a deck with the meanings on it and that is what I use. Cheating, I know. But one thing I do love is tarot artwork so I have quite a few decks to enjoy their imagery. This one is great if you are a romantic at heart. The artwork itself is reminiscent of a Baroque style featuring semi-nude persons. Not all are semi-nude. Most notably the cards featuring semi-nudity are The World, The Moon, The Star, Strength, and of course The Lovers. Two cards intrigued me the most. On The Moon card it features two beagles on either side of mountains, an ocean in the forefront, and what looks like a lobster coming out of the ocean. I have seen the dogs before on my Egyptian deck, the only difference is the Egyptian deck features a scorpion instead of the lobster. The other card that intrigued me is The Hanged Man. He is depicted in a traditional manner with his hands behind his back and his left leg bended at the knee and tucked behind the right. What is different (out of my decks) is that he is on a wooden T-shaped structure and he has a halo around his head that is reminiscent of Jesus and depictions of Helios that I have seen (in which the halo is a series of golden lines coming out of the head as opposed to an entirely golden aura around his head).
Remember I said that if you were a romantic then this deck is for you? That is because it is designed for readings in regards to love, relationships, and sex. Would also make a great anniversary/Valentine’s gift *wink wink*!
