The Secrets of Doctor Taverner
The Secrets of Doctor Taverner is an excellent fictional read on occultism and various mythos and phenomena. Whether you enjoy vampires, werewolves, soul mates, devil dogs, or body swapping, this books will keep you interested in each chapter. Overall it’s divided up into mini stories about Doctor Taverner , his assistant Doctor Rhodes, and a wide variety of patients in the nursing home they work in. Written in 1926, it certainly reflects a different in word usage. At the same time it is classic Dion Fortune, with heady and word dense writing. But unlike other books of hers, this one didn’t feel like I was wading through muck. This one was far more interesting and had me excited to read the next chapter for a new story. Truth be told, this would make for a great mini-series on TV…..that is if they keep the occult to her descriptions.
